Guest author Michelle Caccamisi shared her views on Medical Boards and Law Enforcement after completing a survey on on this topic. Michelle is an active Registered Nurse of 21 years from California. Overall Michelle believes actions taken to date by legislators, law enforcement and medical boards have lowered the quality of care delivered to patients. She’s also concerned that if medical boards are allowed to dictate medical decisions regarding pain management, that it is just a matter of time before they are doing the same with other medical conditions. Turning the delivery of general medical care for patients, into a government regulated operation rather than a private choice made between doctor and patient. When asked to suggest a function State Medical Boards should perform, Michelle made this suggestion.
How about standing up for doctors & patients who are not abusing anything. Instead they are doing their jobs & seeking competent, humane care! Stop sitting idly by while Doctors are terrorized & patients are mistreated, stigmatized even criminalized! Shouldn’t Medical Boards be standing up for us all?

Its extremely disappointing that all State Medical Boards have sat silently by while pain patients and their physician’s have been terrorized, saying nothing publicly! Forming no opinions on major medical decisions being made by government & its agencies! Any person on the medical board or in healthcare at all for that matter, should be speaking out about the devastating consequences of the CDC Guidelines.
Blanket guidelines do not work. Doctors who may be a part of the medical board absolutely know that there will always be intolerable pain for patients & that it is absolutely inhumane to sit idly by, while police raid good doctors for simply doing their jobs while treating such a vulnerable population of patients. Patient privacy has been blatantly accessed without cause or reason. Irreparable damage has been done to patients, their families & doctors who have treated patients for decades successfully.
Duped by our government!
It is obvious that patients suffering afflictions & disabilities are not contributing to an opioid epidemic. Media & government have it all wrong & they know it. Illicit fentanyl has fueled so many overdose deaths along with counterfeit pills & many other illegal substances.
Patients who had been on long term, well documented therapies should never have been affected & left to suffer such pain. Three years & the Medical Boards have not said or done one thing to denounce such travesties. It doesn’t appear that Medical Boards true interest & obligation is safety of patients and or their doctors.
Reasonable Pain relief & patient access to exceptional care should be a top priority along with protections of our educated medical professionals whose actual position is meant to make patient decisions based on individualized plans of care! Face to face with patients armed with all the knowledge to appropriately make patient care decisions. If we allow the government & DEA to do all of this…..which subset of patients will be next? Diabetics, Heart patients? I don’t believe the DEA has all the facts & they are making our healthcare decisions with no assessment, no knowledge, no compassion, no objective or subjective information! They are not qualified to do what they have done! Where are our medical boards on this?
