The American Physical Therapy Association demonstrates one of the worst examples of exploitation for profit I’ve seen to date. In the page links provided the organization goes state by state grabbing any headline they can to suggest to pain patients looking for relief, that using medication is in essence putting your life at risk.

When it comes to the subject of chronic pain, physical therapy has a rightful place in the treatment, but it’s by no means the best or only appropriate treatment in every case. Yet in reading through multiple posts, the APTA presents a very different message.

While I know it’s the job of every professional association to promote its strengths and benefits, the APTA’s actions on this subject seem less than professional.

This is yet another example of how the anti-opiate message is propagated for profit. In fact in the majority of cases I investigate, those who jump on board with the CDC with these types of promotions are doing so first and foremost for profit.

I’m old enough to remember when the APTA’s position and message on opiates was one that cited the co-benefits of both in the recovery of individuals from injuries and surgery. It’s sad to see this organization now going to the gutter for the sake of profits.

Here are a few of the posts I found on their website.
