As of 2019, to understand the arguments, both pro and con, on pain management, it helps to have a perspective of how we got here. Such information is rarely available to the general public. To make an effective argument in supporting chronic pain treatment, one needs to know how and what to argue.

Pain management as a patient right is a concept currently under attack. There are many who believe this subject is one exclusively resigned to medical professionals. I believe it is a shared partnership between patient and doctor. To more effectively argue patient rights, i.e. your body, your money which pays for this medical care, pain patients should educate themselves about the discussions going on in healthcare.

Where we are as a society on the subject of pain management is a reverse of what it was twenty years ago. As the pendulum swings it is important to ensure it dosen’t swing to far back the other direction.
